Lost and Found

Well an unbelievable thing happened. Something I had been working at for years. I finally found two long lost childhood friends from Alaska, Steve Rees and Steve Gray. I have not see either of them in 33 years! I left Alaska in 1974 and I literally had not heard from either since then. A few months back I wrote an entry on my Lexar blog about them hoping that one of them might run across it. Friday I woke up to an email from Steve Rees. Steve quickly filled me in on both of them. It is true you can’t go back. But I at least look forward to catching up. Steve tells me that the Steve Gray and his wife Lisa are digital artist with a background in fine art photography. You can check her out on the net at the Alaska State Museum. I am not sure how to describe their work. It is really imaginative. Way different from anything I do. Now that we have connected again, I hope we can stay in touch.

Cool Website Matt. Thought I’d plug up your blog a bit.

Glad to see you found some of Lisa’s art. And Yeah, it is hard to describe. Both of them make disturbing images, sometimes, and many are very visceral. Steve is now working on a lighter body of pieces loosely based on his childhood and some ‘boy-growing-up’ themes.

You mean like blowing up plastic models with fire crackers and packing Estes rockets full of gunpowder and making missiles out of them, but in reality creating a flare that floats gently to the ground. You mean that kind of boy-growing up stuff?
