Tso Moriri

This month’s wallpaper is an image from the high-altitude lake Tso Moriri. Quite frankly, an amazing place. It reminded me a lot of Alaska. At 15,000 feet it wasn’t easy schlepping a tripod and two heavy 5D MK2s with 3 pound lenses attached. But with a little patience and the use of a clone tool to take out the two rogue Slovak photographers down by the lake, a decent image appears. If my memory serves me correct I use a two stop graduated neutral density filter on this. I simply hand-held it up to the lens.

I don’t get it, Hariman, why HDR? The sensor was perfectly able to capture the full dynamic range here – what would the point of HDR be? Might be time we all stopped adopting solutions for which we then seek to needlessly apply where no problem exists. Perhaps the question you’re asking is, what would it look like if this was a painting, and not a photograph?

I bet schlepping all that gear made for sore shoulders the next day. It’s a beautiful shot, thanks for sharing.

Matt – Thanks for sharing this awesome image. I’m working towards being in a position to go to such places. In the meantime your photographs inspire me.
