Jodhpur: The Blue City and Much More…

The Blue City

Our first stop of this reconnoitering trip is the city of Jodhpur in Rajastan. Jodhpur is known as the “Blue City” and yes, a good part of the city is blue. A wonderful sort of robin egg blue that goes so well as a backdrop to almost any color. But the city is much more than a blue canvas. There are ancient havelis and palaces belonging to the past Maharajahs all calling out to be photographed. This will be the 2nd stop on a colorful photographic trek across Rajasthan. Here is a taste of what we have seen so far.

The Maharajah’s Fort over looking the city.

Waiting for Brother

Yellow and Blue

Leaving the temple.

Not all the city is blue.

All nice images Matt, but I really like the moment and lighting in Waiting for Brother.

Thanks Gary. Yeah, I like that one as well. I took like five shots of him and that is one of the best. It happened rather quickly. I would like to sit more places and wait for moments like this. That is what I did with “Leaving the Temple” and “Yellow and Blue” but time is short and you can only wait for so long before you have to move on. I look forward returning with a group of photographer that want to take their time and leisurely walk the city.

    Matt,

These are beautiful. It makes me miss Jodhpur so much. If you are going back there, I have an awesome fixer that I know there (and has worked with photographers). How about next time I’m in India we go to Rajasthan together for some shooting time.

Jon, sounds like a plan. I have a wonderful little heritage hotel we found, we could stay here. Be sure to let me know. Or better yet, just join our little party!

At Jodhpur, there is a country feeling, a mixture of simplicity and modernity very pleasant. I go back in October and February. I miss the blue. Jalsamer and Jodhpur are perhaps the cities where it is pleasant to travel, meet people.
