Lost and Found

Well an unbelievable thing happened. Something I had been working at for years. I finally found two long lost childhood friends from Alaska, Steve Rees and Steve Gray. I have not see either of them in 33 years! I left Alaska in 1974 and I literally had not heard from either since then. A few months back I wrote an entry on my Lexar blog about them hoping that one of them might run across it. Friday I woke up to an email from Steve Rees. Steve quickly filled me in on both of them. It is true you can't go back. But I at least look forward to catching up. Steve tells me that the Steve Gray and his wife Lisa are digital artist with a background in fine art photography. You can check her out on the net at the Alaska State Museum. I am not sure how to describe their work. It is really imaginative. Way different from anything I do. Now that we have connected again, I hope we can stay in touch.

New Exhibit

This week I have started in earnest putting together the images for my first exhibit here in Temple, Texas at the Cultural Activities Center. I designed a poster for the exhibit. I think it is pretty strong. The show will be focused on the images from the Catchlight book. If fact I hope to have some on hand there. It would be nice to sell some of the framed images at the show as well. I haven’t put a price on them yet, still feeling out the market here. The exhibit runs from from Nov. 17th till Dec. 14th, this year. If you are in Texas, please drop by.

Just finished a video tutorial for Lexar on self-publishing. Now that I have one book out, I am an expert. Go figure. The video should be up this week or next on the Lexar site. Check it out.

Finding work in Central Texas for my kind of photography has not been that easy. But it is trickling in. I have a new shoot booked with the fine folks of NeighborWorks Waco on Oct 27th. I keep thinking Compassion International will call me, but they must have lost my number. Oh well.

More Fun

This is a fun little slide viewer that is completely free. Check it out. I found it on Scott Kelby's blog Photoshop Insider His blog is one of, if not the best blog on Photoshop or Lightroom. This guy is amazing and a really nice guy as well. You would do well to check it out.

My wife and I are coordinating a course called Encountering the World of Islam. It is hosted by our church, yes church. It is an attempt to dispel many myths and misconceptions about this religion. We use the word coordinating because we are inviting experts from all over the US and abroad to speak. We have over 60 people signed up for this 12 week study. We have two or three Muslims coming to speak. We have a visit to a local mosque set up and we have scheduled a time of interacting with the Muslims there during the visit. I believe, this type of course can go a long way at breaking down some barriers between our two faiths.
