Jaipur the City of Opportunity

Jaipur the City of Opportunity

Photography by Matt Brandon

Jaipur, also known as the “Pink City” is the capital and the largest city of Rajasthan in India. It was founded in 1727 by Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amer after whom the city is named. Seeking out the most photogenic opportunities, our workshop participants had the opportunity to shoot in the Amer Fort, the Monkey Temple, the crowded streets and even the flower market.

If there was one word that seems to epitomize our time in India it would have to be serendipity. Every visit to Rajasthan includes a visit to the Panna Meena ka Kund also known as the Amer Stepwell. We usually find local ladies and ask them to pose for us in the stepwell. But recently we have found that the police have stopped allowing tourist to enter the well.  This visit, as we approached the well I saw two pretty young women struggling to get cell phone pictures of each other at the well. Being the nice guy that I am, I asked if I could help. The ladies quickly agreed. One thing led to another and soon we had a modeling session in the streets of Amer. I think our group of photographers was pretty please.
