A Travel Tip By Daniel Pink
Pink’s Travel Tips — Tip #1 from DHP on Vimeo.
In preparation for my time in the US I ran across a book called A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future, by Daniel Pink. I haven’t read it yet but hope to have it and another book called Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die by Chip Heath and Dan Heath for the flight. Both of these books have a lot to do with communicating concepts and ideas in today’s world. Fascinating stuff and something that is really applicable to photographers. But I digress. While visiting Daniel Pink’s website I followed a few links and found he has made a series of short video travel tip. I have only viewed a couple so far and they seem very useful. At first I thought, “What could I possible learn from this guy?” Guess what? A lot. The travel tip linked above is probably one of the most disgusting yet practical and useful tips I have run across in a long time. It involves sticking your finger up your nose…really. I am not kidding. Enjoy.
Funny tip… well, let’s stick our fingers in the nose then!
Will check the other ones 😛
WOW! that is so funny but kinda makes me want to do it too! I’m traveling by the end of the month and CANNOT get sick so i might just have to stick my fingers in my nose ;\
if i see people doing this at the airport i’ll know where it came from.
thanks for sharing

The link is already shared through my facebook. My friends love it.
I’m traveling end of next month. I think I’ll do that; asked my friend who works at a pharmacy for it, we Aussies have a version of the ointment here called Purell.
Thanks Matt, you might as well have saved us from the swine flu. Maybe =P
I almost hate to admit it, but I’ve always done something similar. Preflight and in flight I often moisturize the interior of my nostrils with lotion. Airplane air is very dry, causing nasal passages to dry out. This is unpleasant and makes it easier to become sick. So it occurred to me that I could moisturize the interior of my nose. I’ve been doing so for years and years, and it definitely seems to help.
Ha Ha Matt you had me at “sticking your finger….!”. A great tip, I am going to show the video to my husband who seems to get sick each time he travels by plane. Mmmmm maybe this would also work on the Tube (underground) over here?! If attempted in public, as Daniel so clearly does, it might also free up a seat in the peak hour rush 🙂
I might have been onto something with the moisturizer. Apparently cabin air is only 12% humidity. Here’s a timely take on the issue of cabin air, illness and humidity . . .

The hand sanitizer is a great idea! I don’t buy the nose coating. Most infections are viral and so how does an antibacterial ointment prevent “viruses/colds”? Another option would be to wear a surgical mask while on the plane but you might have trouble getting through security (is this a swine flu carrier?).
