Shigatse, Tibet

Shigatse, Tibet

The stylishly dressed Tibetans and their fedoras. I felt right at home.

Today we drove 95 kms (60 miles) to Shigatse, Tibet’s second largest city. Shigatse, which sits at 3840m, is home to Tashilhunpo Monastery and 600+ monks. This monastery is the seat of the Panchen Lama, the second most important lama in Tibetan Buddhism. The group had a chance to walk around the pilgrim route that goes up and around the famous monastery. Along the way I shot these images.  By the way, I have never in my life seen so many fedora in one place. I feel quite at home!

Another fedora!

When was this monastery built? No oilsands’ equipment carving out this landscape!

Lovely portraits of the men. So much character in their expressions.
