Love your 12 year old set prop. Nicely done sir.
Regarding the process of setting up a photo, I agree that if you are not a photojournalist, you can tinker with the set and dressing. In fact, if you aren’t interacting with your subject as a person, then you are evading part of our social responsibility to talk to the people you encounter.
Thanks for the comment. The Balvinie is always more than a prop. ๐
Hi Matt,
Totally agree with all you say re setting up a portrait. Tricia and I call them ‘constructed’ portraits. As you say ‘contrived’ isn’t the right word as it has negative connotations. To me ‘contrived’ implies that the portrait is deceptive which it’s not when done how you describe. A constructed portrait is not a documentary/photojournalistic style shot, it is your interpretation of a person and how you see them.
Look forward to more vlogs.
Enjoy the Balvenie!
Ross, thanks for dropping by the blog. I like that – I’ll start using, “constructed portraits” from now on. Should I link a copyright to it, or will it be Creative Commons? Seriously it is a good descriptive term. Thanks.
Damn it!…never thought about copyrighting the phrase so I guess you’re free to use it.
Cheers!
Thanks for the exposure comp tip. I usually make adjustments by turning the EC wheel. I will no keep it on “C” and use the the dial on the front of the camera!
Your welcome. It is a small addition that is a huge help.
Matt great vlog and I am right there with you on the xt2. I finally dropped my bulky Nikon kit and haven’t regretted it one bit. You might already be aware of this but turning the SS dial to T you can fully adjust the SS with the back thumb wheel. The xt1 might have done the same but I just figured it out on the xt2 and it’s a game changer. Keep it up looking to forward to watching in the future.
Thanks
Clay, Yep, this is a very cool update that happened with the X-T1 4.0 Firmware Update. The update, as you found, lets you control the shutter speed with the front dial of the XT-1. On the X-T2 it is the back dial. Thanks for commenting.
no prob.
I’m the fuji newbie haha.
That was not Fuji newbie tip. ๐
